Electricity
Electricity is a form of energy that is produced by the movement of tiny particles called electrons. Every atom contains electrons, but in some materials, such as copper and aluminium, these electrons can move freely. When many electrons move together in the same direction, they create an electric current. This current carries energy through wires and powers electrical devices such as lights, fans, televisions, computers, and mobile phones. Electricity can be produced in many ways, including by power stations, batteries, solar panels, wind turbines, and hydroelectric dams. It can be converted into other forms of energy, such as light in a bulb, heat in an electric heater, sound in a speaker, and movement in an electric motor. Electricity is measured in volts (electrical pressure), amperes or amps (the amount of current), and watts (the rate at which electrical power is used). Some materials, called conductors, allow electricity to flow easily, while others, called insulators, resist the flow of electricity and help keep us safe. Even natural events like lightning are powerful forms of electricity caused by a huge movement of electrons between clouds or between a cloud and the ground.
