Plant organs

Plant tissues:

Plant tissues are groups of similar cells that work together to perform a specific function.

Main types of plant tissues

  1. Meristematic tissue

    • Makes new cells and helps the plant grow.

    • Found at growing regions such as root and shoot tips.

  2. Epidermal tissue

    • Forms the outer covering of the plant.

    • Protects the plant and reduces water loss.

    • Includes the epidermis and waxy cuticle.

  3. Ground tissue

    • Makes up much of the inside of the plant.

    • Includes parenchyma, collenchyma, and sclerenchyma.

    • Functions include storage, photosynthesis, and support.

  4. Vascular tissue

    • Transports substances around the plant.

    • Xylem → carries water and minerals, mainly upward from roots.

    • Phloem → carries sugars/food to different parts of the plant.
