🧪 Acids, Bases, and Salts

These are three important types of substances in chemistry.

🍋 1. Acids

• Acids are substances that can have a sour taste.

• They usually have a pH below 7.

• Strong acids can be dangerous and can damage materials.

Examples:

• 🍋 Lemon juice → citric acid

• 🥤 Vinegar → acetic acid

• 🧪 Hydrochloric acid → found in our stomach

🧼 2. Bases

• Bases are substances that are usually bitter and can feel slippery.

• They usually have a pH above 7.

• Strong bases can also be dangerous.

Examples:

• 🧼 Soap

• 🧽 Baking soda

• 🧪 Sodium hydroxide

🧂 3. Salts

• A salt is often formed when an acid reacts with a base.

• This reaction is called neutralization.
