Plant tissues are groups of similar cells that work together to perform a specific function.
Main types of plant tissues
Meristematic tissue
Makes new cells and helps the plant grow.
Found at growing regions such as root and shoot tips.
Epidermal tissue
Forms the outer covering of the plant.
Protects the plant and reduces water loss.
Includes the epidermis and waxy cuticle.
Ground tissue
Makes up much of the inside of the plant.
Includes parenchyma, collenchyma, and sclerenchyma.
Functions include storage, photosynthesis, and support.
Vascular tissue
Transports substances around the plant.
Xylem → carries water and minerals, mainly upward from roots.
Phloem → carries sugars/food to different parts of the plant.
