Evaporation

Evaporation

What is Evaporation?

Evaporation is the process in which a liquid changes into a gas. It happens when the particles in a liquid gain enough energy to escape into the air.

How Does It Happen?

When a liquid is heated, its particles move faster. Some particles at the surface gain enough energy to leave the liquid and become a gas. This process is called evaporation.

Examples

Wet clothes drying in the sun.

A puddle drying after rain.

Sweat drying from your skin.

Why Is It Important?

Evaporation is part of the water cycle and helps cool our bodies when we sweat.

Fun Fact

Evaporation can happen even when water is not boiling.
