State of matter
Definition
States of matter are the different forms in which matter exists. The three main states are solid, liquid, and gas.
Main Details
Solid: Has a fixed shape and fixed volume.
Liquid: Has a fixed volume but takes the shape of its container.
Gas: Has no fixed shape or volume and spreads out to fill the available space.
Examples
Solid: Ice, rock, wood
Liquid: Water, milk, juice
Gas: Air, oxygen, water vapor
Interesting Points
Matter can change from one state to another when heated or cooled.
Ice melts into water, and water evaporates into water vapor.
The particles in solids are packed tightly, while gas particles are far apart.
Fun Fact
Water is one of the few substances that can naturally exist on Earth as a solid (ice), liquid (water), and gas (water vapor)!
