Atomic bonding

Atomic bonding is the process by which atoms join together to become more stable by completing their outermost electron shell. Atoms can bond by losing, gaining, or sharing electrons, forming molecules and compounds that make up everything around us. There are three main types of atomic bonding. Ionic bonding occurs when one atom transfers electrons to another, creating oppositely charged ions that attract each other. Covalent bonding happens when atoms share electrons, allowing both atoms to achieve stability. Metallic bonding is found in metals, where atoms are held together by a "sea" of freely moving electrons, making metals good conductors of heat and electricity. Atomic bonding is the foundation of chemistry because it explains how different substances are formed and why they have unique properties.
