Conductors and nonconductor
Conductors and non-conductors are materials that behave differently because of the way their atoms are arranged. In conductors, some electrons are free to move from one atom to another, allowing electricity and heat to pass through easily. This is why metals such as copper, aluminium, and silver are widely used in electrical wiring, cooking utensils, and machines. In non-conductors, also called insulators, the electrons are tightly held by the atoms, so electricity cannot flow through them easily. Materials like rubber, plastic, wood, and glass are used to cover electrical wires and make the handles of tools because they help protect people from electric shocks. Some materials, such as silicon, are called semiconductors because they conduct electricity only under certain conditions. Semiconductors are essential in electronic devices like computers, smartphones, calculators, and televisions. Choosing the correct conductor or non-conductor is very important because it improves safety, efficiency, and the proper working of electrical equipment.
