Comparing Metals and Non-metals

Comparing Metals and Non-metals.

Metals are strong and shiny, while non-metals are dull and weak.

Metals.

  • Shiny and strong.

  • Conduct heat and electricity.

  • Malleable and ductile.

  • Mostly solids,

    Examples: Iron, Copper, Gold.

Non-metals.

  • Dull and brittle.

  • Poor conductors.

  • Not malleable or ductile.

  • Can be solid, liquid, or gas.

    Examples: Oxygen, Carbon, Sulphur.

    Fun Fact

Some elements like mercury are metals but liquid at room temperature, while bromine is a non-metal that is also liquid at room temperature. This shows that state alone does not tell you if something is a metal or non-metal.
