PLANT CLASSIFICATION
PLANT CLASSIFICATION
Plant classification means grouping plants into different categories based on their features. Since there are many kinds of plants in the world, classification helps us study and identify them easily. Plants are grouped according to their size, stem, leaves, roots, flowers, and the way they grow.
Plants are mainly classified into five groups:
Herbs
Herbs are small plants with soft, green stems. They usually live for a short time.
Examples: Mint, coriander, spinach.
Shrubs
Shrubs are bushy plants with hard, woody stems. They are smaller than trees and have many branches.
Examples: Rose, hibiscus, cotton.
Trees
Trees are tall and strong plants. They have a thick trunk and many branches. Trees usually live for many years.
Examples: Mango, neem, banyan.
Climbers
Climbers have weak stems and cannot stand upright on their own. They need support to grow upward.
Examples: Pea plant, grapevine, money plant.
Creepers
Creepers also have weak stems, but instead of climbing, they spread along the ground.
Examples: Pumpkin, watermelon, cucumber.
