Metamorphic rocks

Definition.

Metamorphic rocks are rocks that form when rocks change.

How they change.

2. Pressure.

  • Heavy rocks press from all sides.

  • Pressure squeezes the rock.

  • Minerals line up and form layers.

Properties.

  • Very hard and strong.

  • Can be layered.

  • Used in buildings and statues.

Example.

  • Marble.

  • Slate.

  • Gneiss.

  • Quartzite.
