One-Way and Two-Way Communication

 One-Way Communication

Meaning: This happens when a message is sent, but the receiver does not get a chance to respond.

Key Features:

  • No reply or feedback.

  • The sender controls the communication.

  • The receiver cannot ask questions or clarify doubts.

Example: An instruction like “Take these goods to the customer.”

Main Limitation:

  • The sender does not know whether the message was understood correctly.

🔹 Two-Way Communication

Meaning:This occurs when the receiver responds or gives feedback to the sender.

Key Features:

  • Includes a reply or confirmation.

  • Can involve discussion.

  • Both people participate actively.

Example: A manager gives instructions and the employee replies, “Okay, I understand. Should I deliver them before 4 PM?”

✅ Advantages of Two-Way Communication

  1. Ensures Clear Understanding

    • The sender knows whether the message was understood.

    • If misunderstood, it can be corrected.

    • Communication is only effective when the receiver understands the message clearly.

  2. Increases Involvement and Motivation

    • The receiver feels included in the process.

    • They can contribute ideas or opinions.

    • This often improves motivation and teamwork.
