Sexual Reproductive System in Humans

The human reproductive system helps in the production of offspring and is different in males and females.

Male Reproductive System

Main Parts and Functions

  • Testes – Produce sperm and the hormone testosterone.

  • Scrotum – Sac that holds and protects the testes.

  • Sperm Duct (Vas Deferens) – Carries sperm from the testes.

  • Urethra – Tube through which urine and semen leave the body.

  • Penis – Transfers sperm into the female reproductive system.

Female Reproductive System

Main Parts and Functions

  • Ovaries – Produce eggs (ova) and hormones such as estrogen.

  • Fallopian Tubes – Carry eggs from the ovaries to the uterus.

  • Uterus (Womb) – Where the baby develops during pregnancy.

  • Cervix – Narrow opening between the uterus and vagina.

  • Vagina – Receives sperm and serves as the birth canal.

Human Reproduction

  1. An egg is released from an ovary (ovulation).

  2. Sperm enters the female reproductive system.

  3. A sperm cell fertilizes the egg in a fallopian tube (fertilization).

  4. The fertilized egg develops into an embryo and implants in the uterus.

  5. The embryo grows into a baby during pregnancy.
