The Process of Effective Communication
Effective communication is the successful exchange of information between people. It involves four key features:
1. Transmitter (Sender)
The sender is the person who wants to pass on information.
They are responsible for:
Deciding what message to send
Choosing the right medium
Making sure the message is clear and appropriate
2. Medium of Communication
This is the method used to send the message.
Examples include:
Letters
Noticeboards
Emails
Phone calls
The medium must suit the message and the receiver.
3. Receiver
The receiver is the person for whom the message is intended.
Effective communication happens only when the message reaches the right person and is understood.
4. Feedback
Feedback occurs when the receiver:
Confirms the message was received
Responds or takes action
Feedback is important because it:
Confirms correct understanding
Ensures the message has been acted upon if required
