Process of Decomposition

1. 🌿 A plant or animal dies.

2. 🦠 Bacteria and fungi start breaking it down.

3. 🍂 It changes into simple nutrients.

4. 🌱 The nutrients go into the soil.

5. 🌼 Plants use the nutrients to grow.

Example: A dead leaf falls on the ground. After some time, it rots and becomes part of the soil.

Types of Decomposition

there are 2 main types

1. Aerobic Decomposition

• Happens with air (oxygen).

• It is fast.

Example: A pile of dry leaves rotting on the ground.

2. Anaerobic Decomposition

• Happens without air (oxygen).

• It is slow.

Example: Dead plants rotting under water or deep in mud.
