States of matter
1. Solid
Has a fixed shape and fixed volume.
Particles are very close together.
Particles vibrate in place.
Examples: ice, stone, pencil.
2. Liquid
Has a fixed volume but no fixed shape.
Takes the shape of its container.
Particles are close together but can move around.
Examples: water, milk, oil.
3. Gas
Has no fixed shape or volume.
Fills the whole container.
Particles are far apart and move freely.
Examples: oxygen, carbon dioxide, water vapour.
