1. Word Building

Activity Name: “Make the Word!”

Age Group: 4–7 years
Skills Focus: Letter recognition, phonics, simple word construction

How to Play:

  1. Place a Picture in Front of the Child:
    For example, show a picture of a hat.
  2. Ask: “What is this?”
    Let the child say the word: “Hat.”
  3. Stretch the Word Out Loud:
    Say slowly: “H–A–T”
  4. Child Finds the Letters:
    Ask the child to pick the correct letter cut-outs: H, A, T
  5. Child Builds the Word:
    Let them place the letters in the correct order to make the word.
    (You can provide a tray or mat for placing letters.)
  6. Sound Out Together:
    Read the word together: “H-A-T… HAT!”
  7. Repeat With New Pictures:
    Use words like:
    Cat
    Dog
    Sun
    Pen
    Bag
    Net
    Map

Extension Ideas:

  • Mix Up Letters First: Give the 3 letters of the word and ask the child to arrange them correctly.
  • Missing Letter Game: Show _at and ask, “What letter is missing?”
  • Speed Round: How many words can they make in 2 minutes?
