Atoms & Atomic structure

Atoms – 5 Points

  • Everything around us is made up of tiny particles called atoms.

  • An atom is so small that we cannot see it with our eyes.

  • Atoms are the building blocks of matter.

  • Each element (like oxygen, gold, or iron) is made of only one kind of atom.

  • When atoms join together, they form molecules (like H₂O for water).

    Atomic Structure – 5 Points

  • An atom has three main parts – protons, neutrons, and electrons.

  • Protons and neutrons are in the center, called the nucleus.

  • Electrons move around the nucleus in orbits or shells.

  • Protons are positive, electrons are negative, and neutrons have no charge.

  • The number of protons in an atom decides which element it is.
