Particle theory
What is Particle Theory?
Particle theory says that all matter is made up of tiny, tiny particles.
Matter means anything that has mass and takes up space — like air, water, your pencil, your desk… even YOU!
Main Points of Particle Theory
Here are the important ideas:
All matter is made of tiny particles. These particles are too small to see with our eyes.
Particles are always moving. They never stop moving!
There is space between particles.Even solid things have tiny spaces inside.
Particles attract each other. They pull toward each other with a force.
When heated, particles move faster. That’s why things expand when heated.
Example in Different States of Matter
Solid (like ice)
Particles are very close together.
They only vibrate.
Strong attraction.
Liquid (like water)
Particles are close but can move around.
Medium attraction.
Gas (like air)
Particles are far apart.
They move very fast.
Weak attraction.
Fun Fact
When you spray perfume in one corner of a room, after some time you can smell it everywhere. Why?
Because gas particles are moving and spreading out! That is particle theory in action!
