Definition:

Neutralisation is a reaction where an acid and a base mix and cancel each other.

It is like:

  • Acid = too sour

  • Base = too bitter

  • When they mix → become safe and normal (neutral)

Simple Example

  • Acid : Lemon juice

  • Base : Baking soda

  • When you mix them → it makes bubbles and becomes neutral.

What do we get after neutralisation?

  1. Salt

  2. Water

  3. Sometimes heat

Acid + Base → Salt + Water

Real-life examples

  • If you get acid on your hand, you wash with water and use something basic to make it neutral.

  • Indigestion: Stomach has acid → you take an antacid (a base) to neutralise it.

Fun Fact

Bees sting with an acid.

Wasp stings are basic , you use the opposite to reduce pain!
