Ozone Depletion
Ozone Depletion
Ozone depletion means the thinning of the ozone layer in the Earth’s atmosphere.
What is the ozone layer?
It is a protective layer of gas high up in the sky.
It protects us from harmful UV (ultraviolet) rays from the Sun.
What causes ozone depletion?
It is mainly caused by harmful chemicals, such as:
CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons) – found in old refrigerators, ACs, sprays
Halons – used in fire extinguishers
Pollution from industries
These chemicals go up into the air and destroy ozone molecules.
Why is ozone depletion dangerous?
More UV rays reach Earth
Can cause skin cancer
Harms plants and animals
Affects marine life
How can we reduce ozone depletion?
Use CFC-free products
Reduce pollution
Protect trees
Use eco-friendly appliances
Fun Fact
The ozone hole is largest over Antarctica!
