Reprodection

Definition:

Reproduction is the process by which living things make new living things of their own kind.

Importance:

  • It keeps living things from dying out

  • Helps increase the number of living things

  • Life continues from generation to generation.

Types of Reproduction:

  1. Sexual Reproduction – involves two parents (male and female).

    • Example: Humans, dogs, birds

  2. Asexual Reproduction – involves one parent only.

    • Example: Amoeba, plants from cuttings

Interesting points:

  1. All living things reproduce to keep their species alive.

  2. Amoeba reproduces by splitting into two – it’s like magic!

  3. Some plants can grow a new plant from just a leaf or stem.

  4. Animals have babies that look like them but are not exactly the same.

  5. Reproduction can be sexual (two parents) or asexual (one parent).

  6. Cilia in tiny organisms like Paramecium act like tiny oars to move food for survival.

  7. Life continues generation after generation because of reproduction.
