The Nervous System

The nervous system is one of the most important systems in our body. It helps us feel, move, think, and respond to what is happening around us. It acts like the contrl centerol for our whole body.

Main Parts:

  1. Brain:

    • The main control center.

    • It helps us think, learn, remember, and make decisions.

    • It sends messages to all parts of the body.

  2. Spinal Cord:

    • A long cord made of nerves that runs down our back.

    • It connects the brain to the rest of the body.

    • It also helps us react quickly through reflex actions (like moving your hand away from something hot).

  3. Nerves:

    • They are like electric wires that carry messages between the brain, spinal cord, and body parts.

    • Some nerves carry messages from the brain to the muscles, and others carry messages from the senses to the brain.

How It Works:

  • When we touch something hot, nerves in our skin send a message to the brain through the spinal cord.

  • The brain quickly sends a message back to the hand to move away.

  • This happens very fast — in seconds!

Functions of the Nervous System:

  • Controls all body movements.

  • Helps us think and remember.

  • Controls our senses (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching).

  • Helps us respond to danger quickly.

  • Keeps our organs working properly.
