  • Metals: Shiny (lustrous)

  • Non-metals: Dull (not shiny)

  • Metals: Mostly solids (except Mercury, which is liquid)

  • Non-metals: Can be solid, liquid, or gas

  • Metals: Good conductors of heat and electricity

  • Non-metals: Poor conductors (insulators)

5. Malleability & Ductility

  • Metals: Can be beaten into sheets and drawn into wires

  • Non-metals: Cannot be beaten or stretched; they break


6. Sound

  • Metals: Produce a ringing sound (sonorous)

  • Non-metals: Do not make ringing sounds

  • Non-metals: Oxygen, carbon, sulfur, phosphorus
