Thermal energy

Definition:

Thermal energy is Heat . It is the energy that makes things warm or hot.The tiniest particles in everything move — when they move faster, the thing gets hotter. When they move slowly, it gets cold.

Main Points:

  1. Thermal energy comes from moving particles inside everything.

  2. More movement = more heat.

  3. Less movement = less heat.

  4. Heat always moves from hot → cold.

  5. You can feel thermal energy when you touch something warm.

Interesting Points:

  • When you rub your hands, they get warm because you create thermal energy.

  • The Sun gives us huge amounts of thermal energy — that’s why we feel warm in daytime.

  • Even ice has thermal energy! Its particles still move, but very slowly.

Fun Fact:

Thermal energy can make popcorn POP!The heat makes the water inside corn kernels expand until— BOOM! Popcorn time!
