mass and weight

Mass and weight are related but not the same:

  • Mass is the amount of matter in an object.

    • It never changes.

    • Measured in kilograms (kg).

  • Weight is the force of gravity acting on that mass.

    • It changes if gravity changes (like on the Moon).

    • Measured in newtons (N).

👉 Formula:

Weight=Mass×Gravity (W=m×g)\text{Weight} = \text{Mass} \times \text{Gravity} \ (W = m \times g)Weight=Mass×Gravity (W=m×g)

Example:If your mass is 50 kg, your weight on Earth is 50 × 9.8 = 490 N.
