Human skeletal system

Human skeletal systeDefinition

The human skeletal system is the framework of bones in our body that gives shape, support, and protection.

Main Details

The human body has 206 bones.

Bones are strong but a little flexible.

The skeleton helps us stand, move, and protect organs.

It works with muscles to help in movement.

It also makes blood cells inside bones.

Examples (Parts of Skeletal System)

Skull – protects the brain

Ribs – protect the heart and lungs

Spine (Backbone) – supports the body and helps us bend

Interesting Points

Babies are born with about 300 bones, but some join together as they grow.

The longest bone is the thigh bone (femur).

The smallest bone is in the ear.

Bones are alive and can heal if broken.

Fun Fact

Your bones are stronger than steel (for their size), but much lighter!
