Energy resources
What are Energy Resources?
Energy resources are things we use to produce energy for our daily needs, like cooking, travelling, lighting, and running machines.
Types of Energy Resources
There are two main types:
1. Renewable energy resources
2. Non-renewable energy resources
Renewable Energy Resources
These can reproduce naturally and will not run out easily.
Examples:
1. Solar energy – from sunlight
2. Wind energy – from moving air
3. Hydropower – from flowing water
4. Biomass – from plants and organic waste
5. Geothermal energy – heat from inside the Earth.
Non-Renewable Energy Resources
These are limited and will finish one day if used too much.
Examples:
1. Coal
2. Petroleum (oil)
3. Natural gas
4. Nuclear fuel (uranium)
5. Diesel / Petrol products
Fossil Fuels
1. Fossil fuels are formed from dead plants and animals buried for millions of years.
2. Examples include coal, petroleum, and natural gas.
3. Fossil fuels are non-renewable because they take a very long time to form.
4. Burning fossil fuels produces energy, but also causes pollution.
5. They are widely used for transport, electricity, and industries.
