Micro organisms and decay
Micro-organisms:
Micro-organisms are very tiny living things that we cannot see with our eyes.We can see them only using a microscope.
Examples of micro-organisms:
Bacteria
Fungi
Protozoa
Some algae
They are found everywhere
in air, water, soil, food, and even inside our body.
Decay
Decay is the process by which dead plants and animals break down into simpler substances.
Example:
A fallen leaf slowly rots and mixes with soil.
Spoiled food smells bad and changes colour.
Role of Micro-organisms in Decay:
Micro-organisms like bacteria and fungi cause decay.
How they help:
They feed on dead matter
They break it into simple substances
These substances go back to the soil
This helps plants grow again
So, micro-organisms are called decomposers.
Why Decay is Important:
Decay is very important because:
It cleans the environment
It recycles nutrients
It makes soil fertile
It prevents dead matter from piling up.
Fun Fact:
Without micro-organisms, dead plants and animals would never disappear from Earth!
