Definition:

Reproduction is the ability of living organisms to make more organisms like themselves.



Why is reproduction important?

  • It prevents living things from becoming extinct

  • It helps increase the number of organisms

  • It passes features from parents to children



Types of Reproduction

1. Asexual Reproduction

  • Only one parent is needed

  • No mixing of cells

  • Common in plants, bacteria, fungi

  • Examples: budding in yeast, vegetative reproduction in plants

2. Sexual Reproduction

  • Two parents are needed

  • Features come from both parents

  • Common in humans and animals



Reproduction in Humans:

  • Humans reproduce by sexual reproduction

  • Parents produce young ones called babies

  • Babies grow into adults
