Living organisms are things that have life. Humans, animals, plants, birds, insects, and microorganisms are all living organisms.
1. They Need Food
All living things need food to get energy.
Plants make their own food.
Animals depend on plants or other animals.
2. They Breathe (Respiration)
Living organisms breathe to get energy from food.
Humans and animals breathe through lungs.
Plants breathe through tiny holes in their leaves.
3. They Grow
Living things grow in size and age.
A baby grows into an adult.
A small plant grows into a big tree.
4. They Move
All living organisms show movement.
Animals move from place to place.
Plants move their parts (like bending toward sunlight).
5. They Respond to Stimuli
Living things respond to changes around them.
We feel hot or cold.
Plants close their leaves when touched.
6. They Reproduce
Living organisms can make new living organisms.
Animals give birth or lay eggs.
Plants grow from seeds.
7. They Excrete Waste
Living things remove waste materials from their bodies.
Humans sweat and urinate.
Plants remove waste through leaves.
8. They Have a Life Span
All living organisms are born, grow, become old, and die.
