Definition:

Metamorphic rocks are special rocks that have gone through a big transformation. They start as normal rocks—either igneous or sedimentary—but deep inside the Earth, they face very high heat, strong pressure, or sometimes both at the same time. These forces do not melt the rock completely; instead, they change the rock’s minerals, shape, colour, and texture.

Fun Fact:

Some metamorphic rocks, like marble, start out soft enough to scratch with your nail—but after heat and pressure, they become so strong that people use them to make statues and big buildings!
