Particle Theory of Matter
Particle theory says that everything is made up of tiny particles and these particles behave in certain ways.
Here are the 5 main ideas:
All matter is made of tiny particles.
Everything—air, water, solids, liquids, gases—is made of very small particles.
There are spaces between the particles.
Particles are not touching each other completely.
Solids → very little space
Liquids → some space
Gases → lots of space
Particles are always moving.
They never stop!
In solids → vibrate
In liquids → move around
In gases → move very fast
Particles attract each other.
They pull each other.
Strong attraction in solids
Medium in liquids
Weak in gases
Heat makes particles move faster and spread apart.
When you heat something, particles move faster and spread out.
Easy example
When ice melts → particles move more
When water boils → particles move so fast they spread apart to form gas .
Fun Fact :
A single drop of water contains more particles (molecules) than there are stars in the entire Milky Way galaxy!
