Gravity

What is Gravity?

Gravity is a force that pulls objects toward each other. On Earth, gravity pulls everything downward toward the center of the Earth.

That’s why:

  • An apple falls from a tree

  • We don’t float away into space

  • Rain falls down, not up

How Gravity Works

  • Bigger objects = stronger gravityEarth is very big, so its gravity is strong.

  • All objects have gravity, even you!But your gravity is tiny compared to Earth’s.

Effects of Gravity

Gravity:

  • Keeps us standing on the ground

  • Makes objects fall

  • Holds the air around Earth

  • Keeps the Moon going around Earth

  • Keeps planets moving around the Sun

Easy Example

If you throw a ball up:

  • It goes up

  • Gravity pulls it back down

Fun Fact!

  • If Earth had stronger gravity, we would feel much heavier!

Key Words to Remember
