Physical quantities and measurement techniques
Definition:
A physical quantity is anything that can be measured and has a number and a unit.
Examples :
Length – how long something is
Mass – how heavy something is
Time – how long an activity takes
Temperature – how hot or cold something is.
Units of Measurement:
Length → metre (m), centimetre (cm)
Mass → kilogram (kg), gram (g)
Time → second (s), minute (min)
Temperature → degree Celsius (°C)
Measurement Techniques:
Measurement techniques are the methods or tools we use to measure physical quantities correctly.
Measuring Tools:
Ruler / Measuring tape – to measure length
Balance – to measure mass
Clock / Stopwatch – to measure time
Thermometer- to measure temperature
Important Points:
Always use the correct tool for measurement
Start measuring from zero
Use standard units so everyone understands the value.
Fun Fact:
Without measurement, we cannot build houses, cook food, or even know the time!
