Enzymes
🧬 What are enzymes?Enzymes are special proteins that speed up chemical reactions in living things. They are like tiny biological machines inside your body.
⚡ How they work:
Enzymes work on specific substances called substrates.
The substrate fits into the enzyme like a key fits into a lock — this is called the lock-and-key model.
The enzyme helps the reaction happen faster, then stays unchanged so it can be used again.
Examples:
Amylase – breaks down starch in saliva.
Pepsin – helps digest protein in the stomach.
Lipase – breaks down fats.
🌡️ Fun fact:Enzymes work best at the right temperature and pH — if it’s too hot or too acidic, they can stop working.
