Inside every living cell, there is a kind of instruction book that controls everything the organism does — how it looks, grows, and functions.That instruction book is made of DNA, arranged into genes, and packed into chromosomes.
🧬 DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid)
DNA is the molecule of life.It’s a long, spiral-shaped molecule that looks like a twisted ladder, called a double helix.Each “rung” of the ladder is made from base pairs — adenine (A), thymine (T), cytosine (C), and guanine (G).The order of these bases forms a code, just like letters in a language.
That code tells the cell how to build proteins — and proteins are what make up your muscles, skin, hair, and even enzymes that run your body’s chemistry.
So, DNA is basically a chemical code that stores genetic information.
🧩 Gene
A gene is a small part of the DNA that carries the instructions to make one specific protein or control one trait — like your eye color, blood type, or height.
If DNA is the full library,then each gene is one book inside it, holding one recipe.
Every human has around 20,000–25,000 genes, and together they make up the genome — the complete set of genetic instructions.
🧫 Chromosome
A chromosome is the tightly packed form of DNA.Inside your cell’s nucleus, the DNA isn’t floating loosely; it’s coiled around proteins called histones, forming rod-shaped structures — chromosomes.
Humans have 46 chromosomes, arranged in 23 pairs. You get one set (23) from your mother and one set (23) from your father.
Each chromosome carries hundreds or even thousands of genes in a specific order.
