How it works?
Smooth surfaces are like good bouncers: When light hits a smooth, shiny surface like a mirror, all the light rays bounce back in the same direction, just like a well-aimed ball bouncing straight off a wall. This creates a clear reflection, like seeing your face in a mirror.
Rough surfaces are like clumsy bouncers: If the surface is rough or bumpy, the light rays bounce back in many different directions, like a ball bouncing off a pile of pillows. This is why we don't see a clear reflection on rough surfaces, but rather a dull or scattered look.
