Rainbows occur due to the refraction, dispersion, and reflection of sunlight in water droplets in the atmosphere. Here's how:
1. Refraction: Sunlight enters a water droplet and bends because light travels at different speeds in air and water.
2. Dispersion: As light refracts, it splits into its constituent colors (spectrum), because each color bends at a slightly different angle.
3. Internal Reflection: The light reflects off the inside surface of the droplet.
4. Refraction Again: As it exits the droplet, the light refracts again, further spreading the colors.
This combination of effects creates the circular arc of colors we see as a rainbow
