The root of a plant have several functions

Roots absorb water and minerals from the soil .These are then transported to all parts of the plants .

Roots anchors the plant firmly in the ground ,so it is not pulled out when strong wind blows or if a animal pulls it

some plants store food in the roots .

When the condition are difficult ,some plants allows the aboveground to die. But the underground roots will be alive
