Neurons are cells that are responsible for sending information from 1 part of the body to another. Neurons are excitable cells.

Excitable cells → able to produce signals.

Vertebrate nerves consists of cell body (also known as soma), and neurites.

The 2 main neurites are axons and dendrites. Axons are neurites that conducts action potential away from soma, whereas dendrites are neurites that conduct action potential to soma.

Neurons are classified (according to the number of neurites originating from the soma) as :

→ unipolar

→ bipolar

→ multipolar

Unipolar neurons have only one (as it's name suggests) neurites originating from the soma, bipolar have 2, and multipolar have more than 2.

The synapes can be in many ways, most commonly axodendrites, or axosomatic. But very rarely axoaxonic.
