Thermocouple

A thermocouple is a temperature sensor made by joining two different metals at one end.

When the joined end is heated, it produces a small voltage. This voltage changes with temperature — and we can measure it to know how hot something is.

How It Works:

• Two metals → joined at one end (called the hot junction)

• Other ends → connected to a voltmeter (called the cold junction)

• Temperature difference = small electric current generated(This is called the Seebeck effect)

  
  

 Uses of Thermocouples:

• Measuring temperature in engines, furnaces, labs

• Industrial and scientific experiments

 Why It’s Useful:

• Simple, cheap, and durable

• Works in very hot or cold conditions

• Gives instant temperature readings
