Waves are a way of carrying energy from one place to another — without moving stuff (like water or air) along with it.
Think of:
Water waves on a pond 🌊
Sound waves in the air 🔊
Light waves from the Sun 💡
🔄 Types of Waves (Just two for now):
Transverse Waves – The wave moves up and down, but energy goes side to side.Example: Water waves, light waves.
Longitudinal Waves – The wave moves back and forth.Example: Sound waves.
📏 Parts or Proportions of a Wave (Transverse):
Imagine a wave drawn like a wavy line. Here's what we look at:
1. Crest
The highest point of the wave.
2. Trough
The lowest point of the wave.
3. Wavelength
The distance between two crests (or two troughs). It tells us how long one wave is.
4. Amplitude
The height from the middle line to the crest. It tells us how strong or loud the wave is.
5. Frequency
How many waves pass a point in 1 second.Higher frequency = more waves, faster.
6. Speed
How fast the wave moves forward.Wave speed = Wavelength × Frequency
📏 Parts of a Longitudinal Wave:
Compression – Where particles are close together
Rarefaction – Where particles are spread apart
Wavelength = From one compression to the next
