🌱 Germination
1. Definition
Germination is the process by which a seed begins to grow into a new plant. It starts when the seed gets the right conditions like water, air, and warmth. During germination, the seed breaks open, and the baby plant (seedling) starts to develop.
2. Where it does and How it does
Germination happens in the soil when seeds are planted. First, the seed absorbs water and swells. The seed coat breaks, and the root (radicle) comes out first to anchor the plant and absorb water. Then, the shoot (plumule) grows upward toward the light. Finally, leaves develop and the young plant begins making its own food by photosynthesis.
3. Essential things
The important things required for germination are:
Water (to soften the seed and activate enzymes)
Oxygen (for respiration to give energy)
Warmth (suitable temperature for growth)
Good soil (for minerals and support)
