Rain is made through a process called the water cycle. It starts when the sun heats up water from oceans, rivers, lakes, and even puddles. This water changes into water vapor, which rises into the sky. As the vapor goes higher into the cooler parts of the atmosphere, it changes into tiny drops of water and forms clouds.
When many water droplets gather together, the cloud becomes heavy. After some time, the droplets become too big and heavy to stay in the cloud. Then they fall to the Earth as rain. Rain is very important because it gives water to plants, animals, and people. It fills rivers and lakes, helps crops grow, and keeps the ground from becoming too dry. Without rain, life on Earth would not survive.
