A red moon is when the Moon looks red in the sky. The red moon is red because of the air around Earth—our atmosphere. This can happen during a special event called a lunar eclipse.
During a lunar eclipse, the Earth gets in the way and blocks the sunlight from reaching the Moon. But some sunlight still goes around the Earth and shines on the Moon. That light turns red because of the air around Earth—just like how the sky looks red or orange at sunset.
So when we see the Moon during this time, it can look red instead of white. That’s why people sometimes call it a "Blood Moon."
It’s really pretty, and totally safe to look at with your eyes!
