Orbits Proxima Centauri – the closest star to the Sun (4.24 light-years away).
Discovered in 2016 using the radial velocity method.
It’s in the habitable zone – where temperatures could allow liquid water.
About 1.17 times the mass of Earth – so it’s a rocky planet, not gas.
It takes 11.2 Earth days to complete one orbit (very close to its star).
Might be tidally locked – one side always faces the star.
Red dwarf star – Proxima Centauri is cooler and dimmer than our Sun.
Radiation is a problem – strong solar flares could affect life.
No confirmed atmosphere yet – still being studied.
It’s the closest known exoplanet that could possibly support life.
